Mushroom foraging has become a farvorite thing for me to do in the Fall after I close down Global Village for the winter. Not only is it incredibly beautiful in the the forests but they are full of edible and medicinal mushrooms. On daily hikes you will see stunning scenery and a great many species of mushrooms - many which are gourmet edibles.
This Fall I will be leading two weeks of daily foraging tours at location in the western Cascades. You can sign up for 1 day, or sign up for all 14 days - whatever suits your schedule.
The first day of each week begins with a welcome reception where you will meet others in the group, drink wine, eat mushroom appetizers, and learn about everythig the daily tours will entail.
Our daily hikes will see you walking in a number of different settings - from coastal pine forests to second and old growth and mixed disiduous/conifer forests. Even urban parks. Each day we will go on a 2-3 hour foraging hike ranging from easy to moderate. There will be some driving (up to 1.5 hours each way) to various foraging locations with scenic stops along the way.
On these hikes you will learn where to look for specific fungi and how to safely identify edible and medicinal fungi. After your hike you are free to enjoy everything the area has to offer.
All hikers must have appropriate waterproof boots and outer clothing as it can get wet and muddy at times and every person must sign idemnification forms.
